Uncovering Impatience in a Fast-Growing Society

Our society has a big problem. We are impatient. So impatient that you do not even want to read this article if it gets too long. Yeah, I know, you just scrolled down to see how long it is to determine if you will read it or not. It’s okay, I do it too.

Or is it okay?

You see, we are all impatient these days, with EVERYTHING. It’s bad.

Why are we like this?

Well, to me, its two simple words we all know: Smart Phones.

Okay, not only smart phones, but computers and all of the new technology these days.

I remember the days of dial-up internet and having to wait a good while for the home page of Google to load, not to mention having to turn off the phone line so the internet would work. But now we have the internet in our hands at the touch of a screen, loading in a second (depending on the quality of the wifi). So when we are on our computers and our wifi is veeerrryyyy slow, we get upset because it is not instant.

We are so used to driving up to a fast food restaurant and getting our food in five minutes that when we go to a sit down restaurant, we get upset for our food not arriving quickly. It’s like we forget that at real restaurants our food is fresh and made to order.

These are just two examples of many of our impatient episodes.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not just pointing fingers at you and everyone else, I am just as impatient. I want everything NOW. That three letter word gets us all in trouble.

But it’s not in just the physical aspects of life.

We all want God to answer our prayers NOW. We want Him to reveal His will NOW. We want Him to come back NOW.

The thing is, He has perfect timing and knows what is best for us. So we need to trust Him and wait. While we wait, we serve Him.

Instead of making this article a lot longer, I am going to wrap it up for you impatient readers.

Hold your horses and gain some patience. Put the phone down, go to a nice restaurant and enjoy the waiting period.

Serve and worship the Lord while you wait on Him.

“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”- Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
