True Beauty

I hate today’s society. Why? Because they are making us look more fake than ever. Society keeps changing the definition of beauty. But who gives them the control of defining what beauty is? To the world, beauty is skinny, a large chest, and perfect hair. Oh, don’t forget the perfectly bronzed skin, paint on your face and scandalous clothing. THAT IS NOT BEAUTY AT ALL! Beauty, on the outside, does not have to be perfect. In fact, I know that there are some guys out there that do not like it when girls have a bunch of make-up on, or dress scandalously. If a guy does not like it, then why are we doing it? Beauty kills. Well, at least the world’s definition of beauty does. According to the ANAD, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illnesses. According to this website, one in five Americans will get skin cancer and one person dies of melanoma every hour. Trying to look skinny kills. Trying to look tan (via tanning beds) kills. Why are we killing ourselves to be beautiful? There are easier ways to make ourselves look good without harming our bodies. We can exercise and stay fit in order to have a slim body. Plus, we can eat healthy food instead of junk food. This helps with your skin looking healthy and it will improve your attitude. We can be cautious of the sun’s harm, but still get some color on our skin when we are doing something outside instead of laying in a tanning bed. Overall, this does not matter, because it will fade away as you get older, but your personality stays the same. I know, you have probably heard it over and over that it’s what is on the inside that really matters. But it is so true! To me, a guy may be attractive on the outside, but he becomes more attractive if he has a good personality. If a guy is a jerk or immature, I am immediately disgusted. If a guy opens a door for someone or is following hard after the Lord, I become more attracted to him, even if he does not turn heads when he walks into a room. Personality is key. Not only does personality mean a lot to your peers, it means everything to God.

1 Samuel 16:7 says “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

God cares more about your heart than how you look. He created you to give Him praise and share the Gospel, not to give yourself praise by how good you look. Besides, we are beautiful to God because we are made in His image.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”- Genesis 1:27

So, when you’re looking in the mirror or comparing your pictures with someone else on Facebook, don’t ask yourself “Do I look good?” Ask yourself “Is my heart reflecting Who God is, showing my inner beauty?” When we reflect God and carry His reputation, our attitudes and hearts gain more attention than any fake tan or make-up will ever do. That is true beauty.
